Positive Behaviour Support
Evidence-based support for positive change — Our flagship PBS service helps people with disability and their support networks understand and respond to behaviours of distress with compassion and evidence-based strategies.
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred, evidence-based approach that focuses on understanding the function and context of behaviours of distress and supporting meaningful, positive change. PBS aims to improve quality of life, safety, and wellbeing by identifying the environmental, social, emotional, and communication factors that influence behaviour. Strategies are proactive, preventative, and strengths-based, and are designed to support the person in ways that respect their rights, dignity, and autonomy. Our PBS practitioners work collaboratively with individuals, families, and support networks to develop individualised behaviour support plans that prioritise skill-building, environmental adjustments, and consistency of support. Where restrictive practices are identified, PBS focuses on reducing and eliminating their use over time, in line with the NDIS Behaviour Support Framework and relevant legislation.

Our Process
Initial Consultation
Meet with a PBS practitioner to discuss goals, current supports, and any areas of concern, and to gather relevant background information in a person-centred and respectful way.
Interim Behaviour Support Plan (if required)
If a restrictive practice is identified or there is an immediate safety risk, an Interim Behaviour Support Plan is developed to support safety while further assessment continues. This plan is short-term, focuses on risk reduction and least-restrictive strategies, and is implemented in line with authorisation and legislative requirements.
